Crowns

A dental crown, also known as a dental cap, is a custom-made restoration designed to cover and protect a damaged or weakened tooth. Carefully crafted to match the shape, size and colour of your natural teeth, a crown can restore strength and function while helping your smile look natural and healthy.

We’ve provided plenty of details below, but if you would like to find out more quickly, simply call us on 01254 202888, and we will be happy to discuss it with you over the phone.

How Do Crowns Work?

How Do Crowns Work?

The process of fitting a dental crown usually takes place over two appointments. During your first visit, we’ll carefully remove any decayed, damaged or weakened areas of the tooth and prepare it for the crown. We’ll then take an impression of your tooth and fit a temporary crown to protect it while your permanent crown is being made.

Your custom crown is then carefully created at a dental laboratory, which can take up to two weeks. Once it’s ready, you’ll return for your second appointment. We’ll check the fit, shape and appearance of the crown, make any necessary adjustments, and securely cement it into place for a comfortable, natural-looking finish.

Crowns: Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re considering a dental crown, it’s completely normal to have questions before deciding if it’s the right treatment for you. At Cherry Tree Dental, we’ll take the time to explain your options, answer any concerns and make sure you feel comfortable throughout the entire process. Below are some of the questions we’re asked most often about dental crowns.

If you have any other questions, or you would like to speak to our team, you can give us a call on 01254 202888.

    What is a dental crown?

  • A dental crown is a custom-made restoration that covers a damaged or weakened tooth, helping to restore its strength, function and appearance.

  • Does having a crown fitted hurt?

  • The procedure is carried out using local anaesthetic to keep you comfortable. You may experience some mild sensitivity afterwards, but this usually settles quickly.

  • How long do dental crowns last?

  • With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, crowns can last for many years. Their lifespan varies depending on the material used and how well they are cared for.

  • Will my crown look natural?

  • Yes. Porcelain and ceramic crowns can be carefully matched to the colour, shape and size of your surrounding teeth for a natural-looking result.

  • Can I eat normally with a crown?

  • Once your permanent crown has been fitted and your dentist advises it is safe to do so, you should be able to eat normally. Avoiding very hard or sticky foods can help protect your crown.
